David Gonzalez, Capital Region Prosecutor, Remembered After Fatal Motorcycle Crash
The Capital Region community is mourning the loss of David Gonzalez, a respected prosecutor and longtime public servant who died following a motorcycle crash in Albany. Friends, colleagues, and members of the legal community are remembering him as a dedicated professional, a passionate advocate for public safety, and a person whose character left a lasting impact.
According to police, Gonzalez, 53, of Latham, was riding a motorcycle on Route 9 around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday evening, just north of the Northern Boulevard overpass. Investigators said it appeared Gonzalez lost control of the motorcycle, was thrown from the vehicle, and struck a guardrail. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash and have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision.
Gonzalez was widely known throughout the Capital Region legal community for his work as a prosecutor and his commitment to serving others. His career was marked by a focus on justice, accountability, and protecting the community.
District Attorney Lee Kindlon shared a heartfelt statement reflecting on Gonzalez’s professional accomplishments and the personal bond they developed over years of working in courtrooms together.
“Dave Gonzalez and I stood across from each other in more courtrooms than I can count. That’s where our friendship was forged. Whatever the verdict, I always walked away with more respect for him than I had walking in.”
Kindlon emphasized Gonzalez’s contributions to public safety, noting that his work as an Assistant District Attorney made a meaningful difference in the community.
Beyond his legal career, Gonzalez was remembered as a devoted father and someone who deeply valued his family. Kindlon shared that in recent conversations, their discussions often centered not on law but on their children.
“He loved them with everything he had, and we bonded over what it means to be a dad. That said more about him than any verdict ever could,” Kindlon said.
Those who knew Gonzalez describe him as someone who combined professionalism with compassion. While he was respected for his work inside the courtroom, many remember him for the kindness, dedication, and relationships he built outside of it.
His passing has created a profound sense of loss among colleagues, friends, and loved ones. The legal community is honoring a man who devoted much of his life to helping others and strengthening the community he served.
As the investigation continues, those who knew David Gonzalez are focusing on the legacy he leaves behind — one defined by commitment, integrity, friendship, and love for his family.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
